This Epic Tour

Well hello there. Again with the long absence but I’ve been cramming for my Media Law exam and it all came to fruition on Tuesday. It ended with me not knowing pivotal cases in Australian history and me sobbing because I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to repeat the subject again.

Anyways! If you like bands and you like bands that are from Melbourne, well you’re in luck. Coming up in June is a tour with three Melbourne bands that you should go and check out. Procrastination is my middle name

Well I haven’t posted for a while, so I thought I’d show you what I’ve been watching this week when I’ve supposed to be finishing my final essay for my New Media subject. I guess YouTube is a type of New Media so I’ll just put it down to research.

1. Kids/Teens React:

I’ve been watching these series from The Fine Bros for a while. Basically they show memes, YouTube stars and viral videos to teens or kids and they react to it, y’know, like the title of the shows. Here are two of my favourites.

Heartbroken

Adam Yauch: August 5, 1964 - May 4, 2012

As you’ve already most likely heard, Adam Yauch aka. MCA passed away on Friday, after a three year battle with cancer. I woke up to this news on Saturday and spent the majority of the day watching videos, reading tributes and sobbing like an idiot. I love the Beastie Boys, you love the Beastie Boys, there aren’t many that don’t, but his passing shocked the hell out of me and now I can comprehend how earlier generations felt when their musical heroes were taken away too early. I don’t really have adequate words to describe how much of a pioneer or awesome human being he was. So here is a bunch of stuff that provided a soundtrack to fun times in my life and made me happy.

Q&A with Store Bought Cool

Sorry for my absence but you know, Uni and work and life and all that. This time for our Q&A we have Dave from Store Bought Cool, a five piece from the inner north in Melbourne and use a mish-mash of genres to create some great tunes. If you want to check out their new single, Doing Fine, you can head over here to check it out. You can also attend the launch of Doing Fine on Friday the 27th of April at The Grace Darling, with support from The Clits, Peter Dickybird, and Wilding.

What the hell is this fuckery?

I don’t listen to the radio or watch music TV but the one time I do, I see this abomination.

Listen DZ Deathrays, whoever the fuck you are, you don’t touch classic Paul Simon video clips and fuck about with them, especially if you’re going to do it with a horrible song. Now I don’t hate Arj Barker, but he doesn’t come close to the amazing Chevy Chase. That isn’t a homage, it’s just plain disrespectful. Now if you’d like to clean your pallette from the aforementioned song and/or video, let’s all listen to You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon together.

I saw Paul Simon sing this live. Jealous?

Q&A with Buckley Ward

Hey it’s another band from Melbourne but this time it’s Buckley Ward. It’s been three years since their last full length album was released; they’ve got a new line-up and they’ve got a new album called So Pretend, which they’re releasing on the 20th of April. Describing themselves as  tender pop with a dash of electro, I’m sure you’ll hear much more of their stuff around the traps.

Q&A with Rooftop Runners

Rooftop Runners are a Canadian brother duo who reside in  Berlin, Germany (one of the many places I’m dying to go to). Their music is moody, minimalist and has some beautiful vocals. They kindly did our Q&A for us, and maybe when I’m Berlin, they’ll let me crash on their couch.

White Arrows – Get Gone

Here’s the new clip, Get Gone, from LA kids White Arrows who are fresh from SXSW. I’m still trying to figure out if I find that slight whiney twang in the singers voice endearing or annoying. I do like the film clip though, it’s like when you got baked in high school and put the visualiser on your computer on.

If you want to check out the stream for the EP, you can find it HERE.
