White Arrows – Get Gone

Here’s the new clip, Get Gone, from LA kids White Arrows who are fresh from SXSW. I’m still trying to figure out if I find that slight whiney twang in the singers voice endearing or annoying. I do like the film clip though, it’s like when you got baked in high school and put the visualiser on your computer on.

If you want to check out the stream for the EP, you can find it HERE.

Uku Can Do Better

Lately I’ve been all about the Ukulele.

Absolutely love these covers.

If you start looking, there is an avalanche of brilliance covers. In the past I saw the Ukulele as a restrictive instrument but clearly that’s an indictment on me as a human being.

Has to be in the running for title of the year. Could easily get a job working for the Daily Telegraph with brilliance like that. I’ve also got some original sporting titles to show my adaptability including “Dragons Breathe Fire On Knights” and “Glory Take Victory”.

Good Girls Never Give It Up On The First Night

I love nothing more than a tokenistic fusion of finely sampled rhymes put to the back of more palatable Caucasian friendly beats. Yeah the Kayne’s and Jay-Z’s of the world are African-American superstars but they always make the music white friendly. My grasp of the terminology doesn’t need to be too in depth to “ball so hard”.

The White Panda have released Bambooyah and it just suits me to a tea. Tracks like “Tongue Tied Tiger” and “Kryptonite Island” play on past loves and jazz the beats up enough that I can throw it on my iPod and fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I go to the gym. “Lose 2nite” & “Foolish Monsters” are also most notable mentions.

I enjoy the odd run from time to time and I find the iTunes options for Workout music is putrid so Mash Up albums like this gets everything I know and speeds it up enough to have some adrenalin boosting benefits. Featuring what comes together like 35 different one minute grabs, even the most hardened mash up aficionado will find something that tickles them even just a little bit.

Artifact – Archaic Line (Graphics Remix)

“For his latest music video, Alexander Ingham Brooke has teamed up with Derek Jarman’s cinematographer Christopher Hughes (Pet Shop Boys, The Last of England), producing a colourful music video that focuses on the themes of growing up, set against the harsh backdrop of British council housing.” – Deadplate Records.

Bristol isn’t just the place where the TV show Skins was set or where I spent last NYE hugging and yelling at people, it’s also where producer Artifact is from. In this beautifully shot clip it shows a young man at the council estate he grew up in, reminiscing about past days spent with his friends, with the track used in perfect juxtaposition.

There’s something about council estates that seem so post-apocalyptic, but that might be because I’ve watched too many British TV shows which are set in council estates or I’ve watched that MODESELEKTOR feat Thom Yorke video clip too many times.  Nevertheless this video brings together an almost haunting track, great location and perfect styling makes for a solid first début video from Deadplate Records.

New & Improved

Just a little less than a month ago, I wrote an article about the music streaming website, Rdio. While I was enjoying it, I did mention I had some quips with the interface and having trouble locating some of the songs I liked. Fortunately for existing users and potential users alike, they’ve changed it up. They’ve made it easier to use, more aesthetically pleasing, a bigger library and easier to share what you’re listening to with your friends.

I highly recommend it .My favourite part is how easily I can sync up albums and playlists to the Rdio application on my phone. You don’t need to believe me, because they do offer a free trial so you can make your own mind up.

Now if only I could embed my weekly playlists onto this site and I’d be really happy. Because I can’t embed them onto here just quite yet, make sure you follow @destroywhiteboy or me @nancy_magoo on Twitter for updates.

Digger Bashing 101 – Tips to Avoid the Media Backlash

If, like me, you’re stupid enough to read anything dished out by news.com you will be very familiar with the absolute disgust and outrage that has been levelled at mid-morning TV show presenter, Yumi Stynes. The presenter of Channel 10′s The Circle has stuck her foot in it and gone around making naughty comments about a decorated Australian SAS officer, suggesting he was a brainless halfwit. How anyone could think such things about people in the Australian Defence Force is completely beyond me. Especially when such a glowing report  was also released last week highlighting the ADF’s  ingrained culture of sexual abuse, particularly against women, and overt drunken misconduct.

It’s Coming Back!

If you haven’t heard already, the spectacular show Community will be returning to your screens on the 15th of March (in the US). Fans were noticibally pissed off when they shelved it for that horrible piece of “comedic” slop called Whitney, starring the annoying Whitney Cummings (she also has a hand in that other mediocre comedy, 2 Broke Girls). Thankfully NBC saw the error of their ways and it’s back! Oh and if you haven’t seen the show, check out my article on it – HERE.

Dean Pelton has become one of my favourite TV characters. Did you guy see Jim Rash win an Oscar the other week?

Yay! I can’t wait! #sixseasonsandamovie
